About the fund
The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a private non-profit organisation in the USA, established in 1983 by decision of Congress to support democracy worldwide. It funds non-governmental organisations that strengthen democratic institutions, human rights and civil society.
NED provides more than 2,000 grants annually to organisations in over 100 countries. Priorities include political process development, independent media, free trade unions, market institutions and civil society.
Ukraine has long been one of the Foundation's focus areas: NED supports Ukrainian media, think tanks, anti-corruption and human-rights initiatives, and organisations that strengthen the country's democratic resilience.
